Is monosodium glutamate toxic to the brain and health ?

Monosodium glutamate toxicity

This poisonous compound (MSG) is known as a flavor enhancer. In the rest of this article, I will explain how harmful it is, and toxic to the brain and overall health. I wrote an article about how you should eat to have a healthy brain, so you can read it in more detail here how to have a healthy brain

So, it is true that this substance really improves the taste of food, but it is very harmful to the brain, and it also has a harmful effect on the entire body and overall health.

Origin of Monosodium Glutamate (MSG)

The Japanese Ikeda Kukunae invented this substance by experimenting with soup in which he added algae (kombu) that enhanced the taste and thus succeeded in patenting Mono Sodium Glutamate.

This product has been used since 1906 as a flavor enhancer. This product is labeled as “aromatic natural flavoring” on many different items.

Why is (MSG) harmful to our health?

This substance acts on neurotransmitters and literally destroys the cells in the brain, especially if it is present in excessive amounts and due to excessive stimulation of neurotransmitters.

Excessive consumption of MSG is caused by various diseases such as:

  • Hormonal disorder
  • Migraine and severe headache
  • Loss of vision and hearing
  • Stroke and heart attack

Where can you find hidden MSG?

You can find this ingredient under various names such as:

  • Acid glutamate
  • Hydrolyzed proteins
  • Yeast from the extract
  • An aromatic natural ingredient
  • Proteins from yeast extract

You’ll find this toxic flavor enhancer in almost every one of these products:

  • Mayonnaise
  • Ketchup
  • Cakes
  • Ice cream
  • Canned foods
  • Beef and chicken soup cubes

You need to know that Monosodium Glutamate is not only found in the diet this dangerous substance is also found in hygiene accessories, for example, soaps, and shampoos, under the name “hydro-protein” or amino acids.

Unfortunately, it is literally everywhere, but if we know and recognize it, we can mitigate the consumption of this harmful ingredient that damages health.

Therefore, algae (kombu) is healthy due to its natural composition and many experts confirm this, but it is by no means the same when processed chemically.

In European countries, this ingredient is named under the well-known codes E-620 and E-625 as a globally recognized additive to various dishes.

Monosodium glutamate Chinese restaurant syndrome

This name syndrome of Chinese restaurants and cuisine originates precisely because of MSG and the excessive consumption of this ingredient has many side effects on many people.

There have been many examples when someone overeats in a Chinese restaurant, immediately after that the person’s heart rate increases or they have difficulty breathing or a severe headache, which is of course the cause of excessive consumption of MSG.

It is not only Chinese food that is guilty and responsible for MSG but also the food in the west that they regularly consume with this dangerous toxic substance, but I can list some symptoms of Chinese syndrome such as:

  • Fatigue (lethargic state)
  • Pressure and ringing in the ears (headache)
  • Excessive sweating
  • You are constantly thirsty because of the strong spice
  • Grimacing faces
  • Stomach and chest pains

So, people are slowly becoming aware of how harmful MSG is to health and many companies will probably pass a law banning the production and consumption of this product, that’s why this toxic ingredient is often hidden with some labels as I mentioned.

So, this is nothing new that I’m writing and I didn’t invent hot water now, but I just want to use this article to make some people more aware of how harmful this MSG ingredient is to their health.

We basically know many things in life, but if we don’t put them into practice, then we can’t know completely. It is understandable that today it is almost impossible to avoid consuming this now-known harmful flavor enhancer ingredient.

Monosodium glutamate (msg) is found everywhere literally in every grocery store and in many foods such as smoke, chips, breadsticks, various meat products, candy, and so on and so forth.

Side effects of monosodium glutamate

It is good now that we know the side effects of this toxic composition. Monosodium glutamate is not only known as a trigger for severe headaches (migraines), but it can also disrupt sex hormones such as estrogen, testosterone, and progesterone. In one of the past articles, I wrote an article about migraine and headaches, so you can read it in more detail here meteoropathy and headache

There is a way to reduce these side effects naturally if we want to of course. 🙂 For example, many people do not like garlic because of its unpleasant smell, but the fact is that this amazing plant is a good antioxidant and the best natural antibiotic.

Also ginger, horseradish, turmeric, and various fruits that are rich in vitamin C can greatly reduce the side effects of this harmful taste enhancer.

Again, I must mention that desires are one thing and possibilities are another, but if you simply cannot avoid consuming this product due to the dynamics of life, environment, work, or something else, then you can always at least take some time to improve your health.

Allow me to briefly explain once again, monosodium glutamate is characterized by a specific taste because it is neither sour, sweet, salty, nor bitter, but has a special meaty taste that sets it apart.

Excessive consumption of this flavor can cause panic attacks, in asthmatics, it can increase this disease, vomiting, and also obesity.

Preventive effects against toxic MSG

I must especially emphasize the harmfulness of this ingredient to the brain and nerve cells due to excessive consumption of msg, and serious damage to nerve cells occurs.

Therefore, preventively, we can prevent better than cure by consuming as many fruits and vegetables as possible with lots of vitamins and minerals, but we must not neglect food for our brain 🙂

When it comes to brain health, nuts are by far the best natural source of health, as are sunflowers, almonds, peanuts, sesame seeds, oats, and of course omega-3 fatty acids.

So, as I wrote, “umami” is the fifth sense of taste, msg is an enhanced taste like when we take effervescent tablets with lemon flavor, for example, strawberry or orange or something else.

What I really want to say, I want to convey and convey to you the difference between natural and artificial flavors and what is the best prevention from artificial and harmful enhanced flavors caused by the msg substance.

Now you know that the best prevention for your brain and general health is what mother nature gave us 🙂 lots of fruits, vegetables, and nuts. The fact is that when we pour msg from a bag, we can slightly enhance and improve the taste of food, but should we do this constantly, and is it necessary to ask the question of whether msg is a flavor enhancer or a disease enhancer?

You need to be aware of the fact if you overuse this disease enhancer or as we would call it the alleged taste enhancer. We will not be able to maintain an optimal weight, and we already know other side effects.

I just have to emphasize that children are very sensitive to this poisonous ingredient, especially small children of two, three, or four years old, and especially pregnant women must pay close attention to their diet during pregnancy because this ingredient can negatively affect the proper formation of the brain and in the general health of the developing child.

Now we can conclude when know, Is monosodium glutamate toxic to the brain and health? and it can also be harmful to overall health as an enhancer for various diseases such as diabetes, autism, migraine, and everything else mentioned in this article.

This ingredient can seriously disrupt hormones and behavior in anyone. It can cause Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s disease. I say again that everyone likes the good taste of ice cream, chocolate, chips, meat, chicken, beef, various soups, and so on, but it is not easy for someone to give up everything at once, but they can gradually reduce the consumption of this dangerous toxic ingredient.

We can overcome all these unwanted effects with an alternative and naturally consume sweet, sour, and salty, and be full and healthy, and also keep the optimal weight that we want 🙂

That’s all I have to write for you in this article and I hope that someone managed to find himself and improve his health.

This article is informative and I will note that I am not a doctor and a quack, and everyone should first consult with their doctor and nutritionist before doing something rash on their own.

  1. Hey Zveki,

Thank you for sharing this article. I am a lot happier as it means I can eat a bit more Chinese and Indian food as I normally do :). My friends will be very happy too as I share this information with them. Coming up to Christmas time, the food we eat at home probably has quite a bit of MSG in it too, so again it will help us relax a bit more on what we eat.

Thanks again my friend and keep up the great work.

    All the best,

    Tom

  2. Hi Zveki, very interesting I heard MSG is not as bad as people say it is so was good to read this. You mentioned autism I think that is interesting as they say autistic children have high levels of glutamates. And I know Glutamates are what form gluten which can itself be quite toxic. But I think really the synthetic nature of MSG is a bit suspicious. I think many synthetic ingredients can be harmful so this could be something to look into perhaps

    • Yes, I mentioned autism and other diseases and for reason, I said that this toxic ingredient as a flavor enhancer is also a disease enhancer. Therefore, by introducing this ingredient in excessive amounts, there can be no good health. In fact, seaweed (kombu) is healthy, but it cannot be the same when it is chemically processed. Thank you for your comment and I wish you good health. 🙂

  3. Wow. this is very informative and enlightening. Reasons why it’s being said everywhere to reduce the intake of processed foods. A lot of people these days go vegan and only eat fresh foods and vegetables because of the dangers the ingredients in these processed foods possess. Not to mention eating out also. A lot of these restaurants use MSG in cooking their meals. Especially the Asian restaurants like the Chinese and Indians. These substances are heavily used in their meals. Nice article here.

    Cheers.

    • Yes, this ingredient is very harmful in excessive amounts for the brain and overall health as I stated in this article, but if we recognize in time what is not good then it is better to prevent than to cure, right? 🙂 thank you for your comment and I wish you good health.

  4. Wow, very enlightening! I already knew that there are many harmful ingredients in processed foods and I eat few processed foods but still, this glutamate seems to be in many products… Is it also predominant in vegan meat substitutes?
I like to add garlic to my food. Raw garlic is probably better, but does cooked or fried garlic still retain its nutrients?

    • Yes, monosodium glutamate is found everywhere, but if we carefully look at the hidden places as I wrote, you can reduce and correct the intake of this toxic ingredient. Garlic is definitely best raw in moderation and great as a natural antibiotic and overall health. 🙂

  5. Hey Zveki. Great post about “poisoned food”.I know about this issue already, but I am more curious about the solutions. It’s obvious that big corporations will not help us, they care only for their own pockets, and for some of those sick people, they profit from people’s harm. However, how do we “ordinary people” can use healthy ketchup or mayo? I mean, I love those, but at the same time want to stay healthy for years to come. Eating fruit and veggies isn’t the solution always. Curious if you have any ideas…

    • Of course, there is a natural ketchup and mayonnaise solution. You can make ketchup yourself, you need tomatoes, garlic, apple cider vinegar, pepper, allspice, and sea salt. You can combine all these ingredients according to your desire and the amount you want to get excellent natural ketchup. 🙂 You can make mayonnaise naturally and vegan with ingredients such as cashews, lemon, garlic, olive oil and also sea salt. You combine all this according to your wish and quantity. 🙂 thanks for the comment.
